Spring’s in the Air at Mid Murray Support Service
There’s something about September that brings a new energy to Mannum. The air’s a little warmer, gardens are starting to bloom, and here at Mid Murray Support Service, we’re feeling that fresh-season buzz too.
We want to give a heartfelt thank you to the Mannum Lutheran Church for their beautiful donation of dry goods, milk, and pantry staples from their monthly Food Drive. These contributions make a real difference to people doing it tough, and we’re so grateful to have such kind neighbours.
Even though July brought quieter moments, behind the scenes, we've been keeping busy, delivering 2,556 hours of service, travelling more than 26,000 kilometres, and preparing 137 meals for care recipients across the region. We’re now proudly supporting 351 wonderful care recipients. Our generous and dedicated MMSS team clocked an impressive 620 volunteer hours last month.
We’re excited to share that we’ve partnered with Retro Catering, a wonderful local business that shares our passion for community and quality care. This collaboration means we can continue delivering delicious, nourishing meals to our clients — while also supporting another local enterprise right here in our region. It’s a partnership that reflects our values and our commitment to doing things better, together.
As part of this transition, our HUB homemade meals will gradually be phased out. While it’s never easy to say goodbye to something we’ve built with love, we’re confident that this new direction will bring even more variety, flavour, and quality to the meals you enjoy. To us, it’s a true win–win, and we’re looking forward to this next chapter with Retro Catering Co. and our care recipients.
With November 1st fast approaching, now is the time to start talking about the upcoming shift from Home Care Packages to the new Support at Home Program. Here at Mid Murray Support Service, we’re well placed and ready to support more people in navigating aged care, and we have capacity to take on new packages now.
Whether you’re just starting to look at aged care options, feeling overwhelmed by My Aged Care, or not sure how to get the most value from your package, we’re here to help. We’re passionate about advocacy and believe that you deserve a team that will guide you through the process with care, clarity, and respect. We’ll work alongside you to ensure your services suit your lifestyle and goals.
We’ve got plenty happening to help you get creative, stay connected, and enjoy a good laugh with friends.
From monthly lunches and bus trips to craft workshops, bingo, and movement sessions, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re into painting, stretching, social games or just catching up over a cuppa, we’d love to see you there.
For all dates and times, please refer to the What’s on Page on our website (mmss.com.au), Facebook Page, drop into The HUB or give us a call on 08 8569 1832 if you’d like more information or to book your spot.
A big thank you to everyone who has donated to Scrooges – your support has been incredible! In fact… It’s been so incredible that we’re now overflowing. Our donation storage is bursting at the seams, and even the shed’s full!
For now, we’re putting a temporary pause on clothing donations while we work through the mountains of pre-loved treasures. In the meantime, if you’d like to help out, pop in and snag a bargain; every purchase supports our wider community programs.
Community Tip:
Spring is the perfect time for a safety check around the home, especially for those with mobility issues or living alone. Loose rugs, cluttered walkways, and poor lighting can increase the risk of falls. A few small adjustments can make a big difference, think sensor lights, non-slip mats, and easy-to-reach items.
If you’re not sure where to start, have a chat with us; we can help point you in the right direction or link you with the right support.
And now for a giggle...
Why did the skeleton go to the BBQ?
Because he heard the spare ribs were to die for!
From all of us at MMSS, thanks for reading — we’re wishing you a happy, healthy and sunshine-filled September!
