Mid Murray Support Service Update – June 2025

At Mid Murray Support Service, community connection is at the heart of everything we do—and the last few months have been a wonderful example of just that. Our little op shop with a big heart, Scrooges Country Treasures, is going from strength to strength. We’ve been absolutely blown away by the incredible quality of donations—thank you, Mannum and surrounds, for your continued generosity! Every item on our shelves helps fund local programs, services, and social events for older people and people living with disability right here in our region.

We’re also grateful for the volunteers who help keep Scrooges running—but we could use a few more friendly faces! Whether you're up for a few hours sorting treasures or helping on the floor, we’d love to have you as part of our volunteer family. If you’ve got a warm smile and a little spare time, we’ve got a spot for you. Drop in and speak with Bec, or email Adele at hr@mmss.com.au for more information.

Meanwhile, things have been buzzing at The HUB! We had a record-breaking 19 players at our May BINGO—our biggest group yet! BINGO continues to grow in popularity, and our next sessions are set for June 26 and July 24. Join us for fun, laughs and maybe even a win or two.

Looking for something crafty or active to do this Winter? We've got a packed program of activities for June and July:

  • Create with Clay: Try your hand at making a Snail Pot or Bee Bath on June 25, or come along on July 23 to create your very own Egg Carrier.

  • Crafternoon returns on July 8 with colourful projects and warm company.

  • Bend and Stretch: Offering two Monday session times to better suit your schedule. Check out our website for dates and times.

  • Bus Trips: On July 2, we’re off to the Murray Bridge Brinkley Re-Use Centre, local op shops, and the Murray Bridge Club for lunch. Then on August 6, we’ll visit Maggie Beer’s Shop and enjoy lunch at the Nuriootpa Vine Inn Hotel.

  • Fun with Friends: Whether it’s board games, card games or a cheeky trivia quiz, there’s always good company to be found.

  • Diamond Art: Held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.

  • Themed HUB Lunches: Dive Under the Sea on June 19, and don your best disguises for our Cops and Robbers theme on July 17!

Lastly, we want to remind our community about the upcoming changes to government funding for aged care, including the move toward the new Support at Home program. If this sounds confusing, don’t worry—you don’t have to go it alone. Our friendly team is here to help you navigate the system, provide up-to-date information, and support you or your loved one every step of the way.

Whether you’re keen to join an activity, book a seat on the bus, volunteer your time, or just learn more—we’re here for you. Call us on 08 8569 1832 to speak with one of our friendly support team for more information.

Mid Murray Support Service: Making Lives Better

Tip of the Month:
Make a copy of your important documents—such as ID, Medicare card, and MyGov details—and keep them in a clearly labelled envelope in a safe spot at home. It’ll save time and stress if you ever misplace the originals.

And for a Giggle:
What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie?
Sofishticated.
