Mid Murray Support Service – July Update
We’re rolling through Winter with warmth and connection here at Mid Murray Support Service!
We’re looking to grow our amazing team! As the demand for in-home and community services increases, so does our need for qualified Support Workers. If you hold a Certificate III in Individual Support (aging and disability) and want to be part of a passionate, community-focused team, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch with Adele at hr@mmss.com.au.
Our team has recently been touched by a few surprise gifts and kind gestures from the community – absolutely not expected, but very appreciated. Thank you for your kindness – we truly love what we do.
We’re pleased to share that MMSS has been successful in securing two community grants to support improvements to our Activity Room. We have received $30,000 from the Department of Human Services and $10,000 from Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR). These funds will go towards creating a more functional, welcoming and accessible space for community programs, group activities and support services.
You may notice some changes over the coming months. The room might be temporarily unavailable while work is carried out, but we will keep everyone informed and do our best to minimise disruption so that our regular activities can continue as smoothly as possible.
If you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve our facilities, we encourage you to get in touch.
National Volunteer Week gave us a wonderful chance to pause and celebrate the incredible people who give their time, heart, and energy to our community. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Mid Murray Support Service – from lending a hand at Scrooges to supporting our activities and events, to transporting our clients to and from appointments, your impact is felt every day. Thank you for all that you do – we truly couldn’t do it without you.
The Support at Home transition and Aged Care reforms have had a date change. The implementation of these changes in aged care has been officially pushed back to 1 November 2025. This upcoming program will eventually replace Home Care Packages (HCP), Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) by the end of 2025 and Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) will start transitioning by mid-2027. Support at Home is designed to provide a more streamlined, flexible support system for older Australians living at home. For the latest updates, visit www.health.gov.au/supportathome or call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.
Meanwhile, our Social Groups are thriving, with more people joining in every week to connect, create and have a good time. There’s something for everyone!

Check your Medicare card expiry date! Renewing it before it expires helps avoid delays at appointments or the chemist.
Giggle of the Month:
Why did the mushroom get invited to every party?
Because he’s a fungi to be around!
Thanks to our beautiful community for your ongoing support. Whether you join us at activities, donate to Scrooges, or just spread the word – you’re helping us create something really special.
