Change, Growth and Looking Ahead at MMSS
Mid Murray Support Service has been a steady presence in the Mannum community for over 30 years, and while change is never easy, it often opens the door to something new. Over the past few months, the organisation has undergone some big shifts, including the upcoming closure of Scrooges Country Treasures and the winding down of our in-house kitchen at The HUB.
But rather than signalling a slowdown, these changes mark the beginning of a new phase of growth for MMSS, with a renewed focus on core services and care delivery.
We’ve grown a lot as an organisation in response to increasing demand from the community. With more people reaching out for aged care support than ever before, we’re expanding our team and our infrastructure to meet those needs head-on.
MMSS has recruited new administrative positions to help manage the increasing number of care recipients accessing support. These roles reflect not only the volume of service delivery but also our organisation’s commitment to delivering high-quality, personalised care in a changing aged care landscape. We are still on the lookout for a skilled bookkeeper. You’re welcome to drop into The HUB, give us a call on 08 8569 1832, or email hr@mmss.com.au if you or someone you know could fill this vital role in our organisation.
MMSS is also always on the lookout for qualified Support Workers to join the team. If you or someone you know holds a Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care) and is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives, we’d love to hear from you. You’re welcome to drop into The HUB, give us a call on 08 8569 1832, or email hr@mmss.com.au to express your interest. As demand for services continues to grow, so too does our need for compassionate, reliable staff who share our commitment to community care.
Care continues to evolve at The HUB, with recent renovations now nearing completion. The newly refreshed spaces offer a more comfortable and functional environment for group activities, appointments, and social gatherings. Further upgrades are on the horizon, too, including the installation of a new sound system and projector to enhance events, meetings and presentations.
The organisation has also welcomed a new vehicle into its fleet, replacing the retired Caddy. Importantly, MMSS continues to maintain a wheelchair-accessible vehicle to support the safe transport of care recipients across the region.
One of the most significant transitions in recent weeks has been the conclusion of MMSS’s in-house meal program. While it was a valued service for many years, the decision was made to partner with Retro Catering, a local provider that shares the organisation’s commitment to community and quality.
This new partnership allows MMSS to keep delivering delicious, nourishing meals to care recipients while also supporting another small business in our region.
As the aged care sector prepares for the rollout of the Support at Home Program, scheduled to replace Home Care Packages from November 2025, we encourage any care recipients or family members with questions to reach out.
We understand that changes like this can be confusing, but we’re here to help. Whether you want to understand what the changes mean for you or just need help navigating My Aged Care, our team is ready to support you. Give us a call on 08 8569 1832 to chat with our friendly staff.
Mid Murray Support Service continues to grow in both scale and impact, always grounded in our Mission: Making Lives Better.
Tip of the Month:
Keep important contacts somewhere visible.
Whether it’s a note on the fridge, by the phone, or in your wallet — having a quick-reference list of emergency contacts, family, your GP, and MMSS can be really helpful in a pinch. It’s especially handy if someone else is assisting you in your home or making a call on your behalf.
And now for a giggle…
What do you call a cow that plays a musical instrument?
A moo-sician!
