Mid Murray Support Service Update – May 2025

At Mid Murray Support Service, we’re all about connection, creativity, and community — and we’ve got an exciting calendar of events to prove it! Whether you're into art, outings, movement, or a good old-fashioned game of BINGO, there’s something for everyone.

Mondays kick off with our popular Bend & Stretch sessions, held at 11:15am and again at 12:30pm. These gentle movement chair-based classes are run by a qualified personal trainer and are a fantastic way to build strength, improve balance, and start your week with a boost.

On the first and third Tuesdays of each month, our Diamond Art Group meets to work on sparkling creations, while the second Tuesday is reserved for Crafternoon. In May, participants will be getting creative with glass painting, followed by teddy bear-themed photo frames in June — a delightful keepsake or gift idea! Sessions run from 1 pm to 3 pm and include a cuppa and treat to wrap up the afternoon.

Our monthly Bus Trips, held on the first Wednesday of the month, remain a highlight. June will see us explore the striking landscapes of Big Bend, with a trip to Murray Bridge planned for July. These full-day adventures (8:45 am – 4:15 pm) are the perfect way to take in the sights, enjoy some sunshine, and share a laugh or two.

If you love working with your hands, Create with Clay on the fourth Wednesday of each month (1 pm – 3:30 pm) is not to be missed. In May, we’ll be sculpting casserole dishes, and in June, getting garden-ready with snail pots or bee baths.

Thursdays are jam-packed with social activities. On the first, second, and fifth Thursdays, our Fun with Friends group meets from 1 pm to 3:30 pm, rotating activities like board games, cards, and conversation. The third Thursday brings our Lunch at The HUB, a hearty two-course meal served with great company and often a special guest speaker or entertainment to enjoy. Finally, on the fourth Thursday, it’s time to set eyes down for BINGO — a community favourite, with growing numbers and excellent prizes.

With so much to get involved in, now is a great time to try something new, reconnect with old friends, or make a few new ones. If you'd like more information about any of our upcoming activities, visit www.mmss.com.au or call us on 08 8569 1832 — our friendly team would love to chat and help you find something you’ll enjoy.

Please note: Subsidised rates may be available depending on funding eligibility. Some fees may apply and spots are limited – early registration is encouraged.

Congratulations to Andrew Thornton, winner of the Scrooges Easter Raffle! By the time he got the prize home, his kids had already divvied it up – we’re sure it was well enjoyed. Next up: our Mother’s Day Raffle is underway! With an incredible prize that Mum will love (or you might keep for yourself), pop into Scrooges to grab your $1 tickets.

MMSS is still growing and on the lookout for passionate people to join our amazing team. We are currently seeking:

  • A cleaner with great attention to detail

  • Qualified Support Workers (Cert III or IV in Aged or Individual Support)

If that sounds like you (or someone you know), please send your resume and cover letter to hr@mmss.com.au.

Scrooges is also on the lookout for new volunteers! If you have time to spare and want to be part of a welcoming, community-minded crew, pop into Scrooges and speak with Bec or email Adele at hr@mmss.com.au.

Want to stay in the loop with all the latest news, events, and community updates? Visit our website at www.mmss.com.au and make sure to follow both Mid Murray Support Service and Scrooges Country Treasures on Facebook. It’s the easiest way to keep up with what’s happening, see photos from recent activities, and be the first to hear about upcoming events and raffles!

If you’ve recently been assigned a Home Care Package, or are considering changing providers, come and chat with our friendly Home Care Team. We have capacity and would love to support you. We also provide NDIS services and welcome anyone looking for the right provider to come and see if MMSS is the right fit.

Big changes are coming to aged care, with the new Support at Home program set to replace the current Home Care Package model. If you’d like to know how this may impact you or someone you care for, give us a call at The HUB on 08 8569 1832 – we’re happy to help.

March was a record-breaking month for Mid Murray Support Service! We proudly delivered 2,793 hours of care — the highest number in our organisation’s history. Our previous record was in February of 2025, showing that our growth just continues onwards and upwards. Our hardworking team travelled over 24,000 kilometres to provide essential services across the region, and our incredible volunteers contributed 599 hours of their time. We currently support 351 clients, and in March, we delivered 231 freshly prepared meals to homes throughout the community. These numbers reflect not only the growing demand for our services but also the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters. Thank you for helping us make a meaningful difference every day.

Thank you to our community for your ongoing support and involvement. We love what we do and we’re proud to be walking alongside you.

Tip of the Month:
As the temperature drops, it’s a great time to check your home for drafts, especially around windows and doors. A simple door snake or rolled towel can help keep the warmth in and your power bill down!

Giggle of the Month:
I told my doctor that I broke my arm in three places. He said, “You should stop going to those places.”
